New School Opens in Rural Kenya – Bringing Education to 300 Children
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the hard work of local partners, Hope Harbor Foundation has officially opened a new primary school in a remote village in rural Kenya. For the first time, more than 300 children who previously had little or no access to formal education now have a safe place to learn and grow.
The school features six classrooms, a small library, clean water facilities, and separate sanitation blocks for boys and girls. Local teachers have been trained and hired, and the first group of students began classes this month with brand-new desks, books, and school supplies provided by the foundation.
“This school is more than a building,” said Elena Vargas, Program Director at Hope Harbor Foundation. “It is a promise that these children will have the chance to build better futures for themselves and their communities.”
A Community Effort
The project was made possible through a combination of individual donations, corporate partnerships, and strong collaboration with village leaders. Community members helped clear the land, provided local materials, and continue to support the school through a parent committee that oversees daily operations.
In addition to regular classes, the school will offer after-school reading clubs, basic health education, and a feeding program that ensures every child receives at least one nutritious meal each day. These extra services are designed to remove barriers that often keep children, especially girls, out of school.
Looking Ahead
Hope Harbor Foundation plans to expand the school over the next three years by adding more classrooms and a secondary education wing. We are also working on a teacher housing project so that qualified educators can live near the school year-round.
